What standards are there for light transmission?

Light transmission through an optical LAN is subject to the Gigabit Ethernet Standards and the Fiber Channel Standards; transmission speed is 133 Mbps to 4.25 Gbps and the transmission distance is up to 1 km.

Digital audio/video transmission is subject to the IEEE Standards 1394b; transmission speed is several Mbps to 500 Mbps and the transmission distance is several meters to hundreds of meters.

Light transmission through a trunk line is subject to the SONET and SDH Standards: its transmission speed is 622 Mbps or more and the transmission distance is up to tens of kilometers. Light transmission through a subscriber line is subject to the FTTH Standards; its transmission speed is 100 Mbps to 622 Mbps and the transmission distance is several kilometers.
