500-mA LDO Adjustable Output Voltage Regulator: TA58MS00F
The TA58MS00F is a low-dropout (LDO) regulator with an output on/off control input. The on/off control enables the setting of power-up/down sequences and also helps reduce standby power. The TA58MS00F also incorporates several protection features, such as overcurrent protection, which contribute to improved system reliability. Since the output voltage is freely adjustable between 2.475 V and 24 V using an external resistor, the TA58MS00F can be used in applications for which fixed voltage regulators can not be employed.

Typical Application Circuit Example

- Referring to the above circuit example, connect capacitors CIN and COUT between IN and GND and OUT and GND, respectively. Ensure that those capacitors are placed as close as possible to the IC pins.
Though COUT is intended to prevent output oscillations and to maintain output stability under load variations, the regulator output may oscillate if the COUT capacitance decreases and its equivalent series resistance (ESR) increases with the low operating temperature. Thus, it is recommended to use capacitors whose characteristics, such as capacitance and ESR, do not vary greatly depending on the usage environment or the operating time. The regulator output may also oscillate when using a capacitor with very low ESR, such as a ceramic capacitor, alone. To make the TA58MS00F less susceptible to oscillation, an electrolytic capacitor should be connected in parallel, or a resistor that serves as the ESR should be connected in series with the output capacitor as shown above. Since the IC may oscillate depending on the ambient conditions, such as capacitance, ESR, input voltage, output current and temperature; appropriate capacitors and resistors should be selected experimentally in an actual application. - Setting the output voltage
The output voltage can be calculated by the equation below. The output voltage should be specified by adjusting R1 while R2 ≈ 5 kΩ.
R1 and R2 should be connected in close vicinity to make the trace to the ADJ pin as short as possible.
VOUT = VREF × ( 1 + R1/R2 ) + IADJ × R1
Note: IADJ= 1.2μA
