Demodulation and Error Correction IC for DTMB

Overview

This photo shows the TC90518 demodulation and error correction IC designed for China Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting receiver applications. The TC90518 is compliant with DTMB (GB20600-2006), Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting, DVB-C (ETSI EN 300 429), a digital cable broadcasting standard, and GY/T 170-2001 equivalent to ITU-T J.83 Annex A. The TC90518 can be configured to perform demodulation and error correction for these TV signals.
Toshiba's unique digital reception technology allows the TC90518 to meet the need for cable television. The IC also pushes the limits of multipath interference and power consumption, offering best-in-class performance and the industry's lowest power consumption.

The input signal can be a Direct IF signal (36 MHz), a Low IF signal or an I/Q orthogonal baseband signal. The output is a demodulated and error-corrected MPEG-2 transport stream. The TC90518 embodies Toshiba's outstanding technologies for the demodulation and error correction of digital terrestrial broadcasting that are widely recognized as excellent ISDB-T solutions, including those for quick pull-in, receiver sensitivity improvement, adaptive error correction and various monitoring functions.

This photo shows the TC90508 demodulation and error correction IC designed for China Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting receiver applications. The TC90508 is compliant with DTMB (GB20600-2006), Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting. The input signal can be a Direct IF signal (36 MHz), a Low IF signal or an I/Q orthogonal baseband signal for digital terrestrial demodulation. The output is a demodulated and error-corrected MPEG-2 transport stream.

The TC90518 and TC90508 are fully compliant with China's national standard of digital television terrestrial broadcasting. They provide excellent reception performance not only for the seven modes specified in the standard but also for each regional operation in China.

Toshiba will expand its portfolio of ICs specifically designed for applications in digital televisions that will become more pervasive in China.

These are key features of the TC90508 demodulation and error correction IC designed for China Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting receiver applications.

Chinese national standards certified by ADTC

  • ■The TC90518 and TC90508 are certified to China's national standard.

Features and Block Diagram of the TC90518

Ideal for DTMB, Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting
High-performance demodulator suitable for real reception environments, including an SFN environment

Compliant with China's DTMB standard and designed for real reception environments, the TC90518 realizes the industry's highest reception performance in various environments.

  • Excellent required C/N ratio
  • Improved characteristics for impulse noise, analog SFN interference and spurious interference
  • Low power consumption
Compared to the TC90508 with industry's lowest power consumption, the TC90518 provides a further significant reduction in power consumption by using even more intricate power reduction techniques (approx. 60% reduction).
The reduced power consumption enables simple power supply and thermal designs, making the TC90518 suitable for various portable devices
  • Supply voltages: 1.1 V, 3.3 V (I/O)
  • Supports the use of crystals of different frequencies
16 MHz, 24 MHz, 27 MHz, 30.4 MHz, 32 MHz, 36 MHz, etc. Alternatively, an external low-swing clock can be used for the tuner to eliminate the need for a crystal and thus reduce system cost.
  • Built-in long-delay multipath interference canceller capable of handling multipath delays greater than the guard interval.Cancels out not only post-echo but also various pre-echo artifacts
  • Compliant with GB20600-2006 (DTMB), Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting
  • Certified to GB/T26685-2011 and GB/T26686-2011, China's national standards
  • Compliant with DVB-C, China's digital cable broadcasting
    Supports Nordig Unified&C-Book and GY/T240-2009
  • Built-in tuner phase noise suppressing circuit and co-channel interference suppressing circuit
  • Fast channel switching and channel search
  • MPEG-2 transport stream serial and parallel output
  • Fast-mode (400 kHz) I2C-compatible, I2C pins for tuner control
  • Supports standby operation
  • Standalone operation with embedded memory
  • Small package: 64-pin LQFN
