Current Status of Environmental Impact
The Semiconductor & Storage Products Company Group strives to improve environmental efficiency by analyzing its impact on the environment, utilizing the environmental management information system.
The status of Semiconductor & Storage Products Company Group’s environmental impact in FY 2010 is described below.
Please refer to "Reduction of Environmental Impact of Business Activities" regarding some of our specific initiatives currently ongoing in our efforts to reduce the impact of our business activities on the environment.

- (Note 2) Water recycling rate: (required feed water – water supplied) / (required feed water) x 100 (%). (as defined by JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association))
- (Note 3) CO2 emission coefficient: For fuel and heat, this is based on the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy and the Law Concerning the Promotion of the Measures to Cope with Global Warming. (A value provided by the supply company is used as the unit heat quantity of city gases.) For domestic electric power, it is based on the data (receiving end) provided by the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan. For overseas electric power, it is based on the data reported from the GHG Protocol.

Toshiba Group conducts centralized control of various environmental performance data through the environmental management information system. Each site inputs its data on energy, wastes, etc. into the central server, and the accumulated data is then utilized to gauge the environmental impact of all business activities, create action plans, and support the management decisions of the environmental management system as displayed in the figure below. Toshiba Group also publicly discloses the environmental performance information to stakeholders both inside and outside of the Company through the website, environmental reports, and other media.
The results of Toshiba Group Environmental Audit System introduced in the preceding chapter are also entered into the environmental management information system of Toshiba Group, and data on superlative environmental activities discovered at audits are shared horizontally throughout the Group and utilized to improve the environmental management level at each site.
With the aim of enhancing reliability, we receive third party certification by Bureau Veritas Japan (Note) for our environmental performance data; the verification of the environmental performance data in FY 2010 showed no significant errors in the data.
