Reduction of Environmental Impact of Business Activities

The Toshiba Semiconductor & Storage Products Company Group strives to reduce the impact of its business activities on the global environment

The Semiconductor & Storage Products Company Group's manufacturing companies in the Kanto and Tohoku Regions suffered considerable damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, but thanks to immense help from outside the company, we were able to proceed with recovery earlier than expected. Although facilities in plants were damaged by the earthquake, there was no leakage of chemical substances, and the plant damage caused no adverse effects to the surrounding environment. Nevertheless, we were reminded of the importance of environmental preservation activities once again and hope to make further efforts in ensuring security in our manufacturing sites.
Public interest in power conservation and resource conservation has also significantly increased after the earthquake. The Toshiba Group is working on reducing environmental impact throughout all its business processes, and the Semiconductor & Storage Products Company has also introduced cross-platform energy conservation measures throughout the organization while promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions during manufacturing. We are proceeding with efforts to avoid waste of valuable resources through "MOTTAINAI (too good to waste) actions" and other 3R measures. This Chapter introduces our efforts taken in various business processes.
