Environmental Management

New vision of the ideal situation in 2050

The Toshiba Group recognizes that it is a basic responsibility of present day humans to pass forward our "irreplaceable earth environment" to the next generation in a healthy condition, and has drawn up the "Toshiba Group Environmental Vision 2050" to help to achieve this.
As part of this vision, we hope to create security and safety in society and genuine value throughout the lifecycles of our products – their production, use and utilization, and recycling – by taking the environment into account in our activities and by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the effective utilization of resources and control of chemical substances. (Note 1)
We pay close attention to GDP growth rate forecasts around the world, world population growth forecasts, and greenhouse gas reduction targets adopted by the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and other reputable bodies. The entire Toshiba Group will endeavor to achieve an environmental efficiency improvement factor (Note 2) of 2.3 in 2012 (the target year for the 4 th environmental action plan), a factor of five in the mid-term year of 2025, and a factor of 10 in 2050 by comparison to the baseline year of 2000.
The Semiconductor & Storage Products Company Group believes that it is incumbent on a "corporate citizen of planet Earth" to endeavor for further mitigation of environmental impact and to create new, rich values. We are striving to realize this vision.

Environmental Vision 2050:Toshiba Group practices environmental management that promotes harmony with the Earth, contributing to the creation of a richer lifestyle for society.

  • (Note 1): For more details on the Toshiba Environmental Vision 2050, please refer to our website at http://www.toshiba.co.jp/env/en/management/vision2050.htm
  • (Note 2): This factor is an internal Toshiba-created index which evaluates both increases in product value and reductions in environmental impact of new and old products/services at the same time, compared to the baseline year 2000.
We calculate this factor by comparison of environmental efficiencies (product performance divided by environmental impact) between new and old products/services.
